Reagan had a way with words that remains unequaled. He was able to connect with and describe the struggles of every American. He spoke with respect and used humor, when appropriate, to articulate a point. Ronald Reagan is the best thing that ever happened to the Republican party. Here are just a few of the many reasons Ronald Reagan is still our political Valentine.
He knew government is the root of the problem and individuals are the solution.
“Government does not solve problems. It subsidizes them.”
“I have wondered at times what the Ten Commandments would have looked like if Moses had run them through the US Congress.”
Reagan saved America from Jimmy Carter in the 1980 Presidential Election.
“Recession is when your neighbor loses his job. Depression is when you lose yours. And recovery is when Jimmy Carter loses his.”
Just last year Jimmy Carter said he would have defeated Reagan had he been more ‘manly’
Somehow he managed to articulate political differences, and even differences in political theories, in a way the average man could understand.
“Republicans believe every day is the Fourth of July, but the democrats believe every day is April 15.”
“Sometimes when I’m faced with an atheist, I am tempted to invite him to the greatest gourmet dinner that one could ever serve, and when we have finished eating that magnificent dinner, to ask him if he believes there’s a cook.”
“Socialists ignore the side of man that is the spirit. They can provide you shelter, fill your belly with bacon and beans, treat you when you’re ill, all the things guaranteed to a prisoner or a slave. They don’t understand that we also dream.”
“Our government needs the church, because only those humble enough to admit they’re sinners can bring democracy the tolerance it requires to survive”
“I’ve noticed that everyone who is for abortion has already been born.”
Reagan used humor to connect with people and lightheartedly make a point.
“I want you to know that also I will not make age an issue of this campaign. I am not going to exploit, for political purposes, my opponent’s youth and inexperience.”
“Thomas Jefferson once said, ‘We should never judge a president by his age, only by his works.’ And ever since he told me that, I stopped worrying.”
“I have left orders to be awakened at any time during national emergency, even if I’m in a cabinet meeting.”
From acting in old westerns to his foreign policy, Reagan was a man’s man.
“Here’s my strategy on the Cold War: we win, they lose.”
“Since I came to the White House, I’ve gotten two hearing aids, had a colon operation, a prostate operation, skin cancer, and I’ve been shot…damn thing is, I’ve never felt better.”
Reagan wouldn’t be Reagan without Nancy by his side; she was graceful and classy. They’re perfect together!
Ronald Reagan inspired all of us to dream bigger and work harder and in our pursuit of the American Dream. He gave us an appreciation for American Exceptionalism and pride in the nation that we are.
“If we lose freedom here, there is no place to escape to. This is the last stand on earth.”
“The greatest leader is not necessarily the one who does the greatest things. He is the one that gets the people to do the greatest things.”
“There are no constraints on the human mind, no walls around the human spirit, no barriers to our progress except those we ourselves erect.”
”America is too great for small dreams.”
God bless Reagan’s legacy. God bless America.
