Marie Harf is the deputy spokesperson for the US Department of State and a former spokesperson for the Central Intelligence Agency.
In case you were unaware she was recently discussing ISIS on Hardball with Chris Matthews and stated:
“We need in the medium to longer term to go after the root causes that leads people to join these groups, whether it’s lack of opportunity for jobs, whether…”
Now, I’m not sure about you but I don’t see blowing myself up as a real life solution to my unemployment (I’m currently employed though, so maybe I’m out of touch).
The internet pretty much died when she spewed such hilarious nonsense. Republicans had a blast when she went to Twitter defending her statements, and the Democrats had a cow when she said she got her idea from George Bush (which is exactly the foreign policy President Obama wanted to stay away from).
There were some on social media who applied Ms. Harf’s suggestion and came up with some job ideas for terrorists. (highspeed window-washer?)
In all seriousness, with all… er, most, of my sarcasm aside, it scares the bejeezus out of me that a state department official stated jobs are the answer to ISIS. Not just because she cares more about terrorists finding jobs than our own college kids, but because it proves the department is completely out of touch and unaware of the entire problem.
People don’t join the ‘religion of peace’ because they don’t have a job. They are raised in Muslim culture, and at some point join a cult that takes their beliefs too far. These extremists believe in killing anyone who disagrees with Allah. They hate us, not because of our success and thriving economy but because we are a nation that practices Judeo-Christian principles – liberty, freedom, rights for women, debate amongst individuals without oppression of either person or party, and power that doesn’t resonate from a single leader, but from an empowered people. That is why they hate us.
Ms. Harf and the Democrats in DC want to give our enemies jobs, and keep aid from our allies.
In the face of our ISIS crisis the President thinks we should cut spending on defense and spend more on educating kids in the 13th grade.
The Democrats tax our law-abiding workers and businesses, and promote welfare for “undocumented immigrants.”
This party demands parental consent for minors to get in a tanning bed, but thinks it’s best for school officials not to notify a parent if they dispense birth control or help students get an abortion.
Bureaucrats provide healthcare to all on the dime of a few and give people money on credit hoping my generation will produce enough to foot the bill.
Ms. Harf, with all respect due to your title, jobs are not a solution to our ISIS problem.
Changing the way Washington does business is the start of a fix to our ISIS problem (and all of the others too).
But thanks for your comments, they really made my day.
